Description: The title of this artwork is Death. How can it get any more optimistic than that? (reference to my goal to promote positive and solution-oriented outlook in my art) But, hold on a minute. Death is a natural part of – well - life. Some of us, unfortunately, have to face death earlier than others. Some may have a terminal illness. Some may watch family members’ or friend’s demise after a long battle, or, on the opposite side of the spectrum – face sudden and tragic loss. We all have to deal with death sooner or later. I feel this image does not represent the ending of life perse, but an ability to accept it and be at peace with this currently unavoidable part of our existence. Some religious folks may find the picture appealing since two people or beings in the background can be perceived as angels.
But, if you don’t believe in angels or this particular type of afterlife, you can view the people in the back as witnesses of death. The dying person and the witnesses are coming with the terms of demise, but the unifying goal is one – the attainment of peace.
