Note to viewers: When I started writing descriptions for the images, I wanted to make them screen readers friendly, but unfortunately, I felt I was not able to do it for the entire website. I hope other descriptions can still give a general idea about the pictures on nicoxxii.com to those who use screen readers. Here’s an example of the initial effort. I also wanted to separate the color and general symbolism from the description, now I put them all in one place when needed.
General Description: A photograph of a weathered wristwatch with a golden color frame and brown leather bracelet (with two golden color flower-shaped ten-petaled pins on each side of the frame) resting on a flat, smooth surface. Light from a lamp (hidden from the view) shines from the upper right corner.
Golden frame, the bracelet, and the pins reflect the warm yellow light of the lamp. Wet or weathered paper effect is applied to the edges of the photograph, creating a black frame around it. The camera focuses on the dial, leaving the rest of the picture slightly dimmer. The general atmosphere of the image is peaceful as if time goes by slowly. There is no urgency or stress often associated with time-keeping devices. In this photograph time is a friend.
Colors: A combination of different tones of golden and brown symbolizes quiet optimism, confidence, insight, wisdom grounded in experience, stability and tranquil state of mind.
Symbolism: The time on the watch and the lighting indicate evening: time to unwind, rest and reflect. The shape of the dial is a combination of a square (stability), and a circle (unity) supports the overall symbolism of the image: time can be daunting, alarming (it warns us about death) but in this image time is a companion of the those who accept their mortality.
